History of the United Nations
The United Nations was a second attempt to united the world after the League of Nations failed to keep to world from World War II. The United Nations first met on January 1, 1942 during WWII when 26 nations pledged to work together to fight the Axis Powers (Germany, Japan, Italy). United States president, Franklin D. Roosevelt first coined the name, "United Nations" at that first meeting.

Global Issue: Terrorism
A major issue in today's society is terrorism. Terrorism has really just emerged as a major threat in the 21st century. The first major act of terrorism was the September 11th, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. Immediately following the attacks, the United Nations passed a new resolution to stop the financing of terrorism and criminalize those who do so. That's why Osama Bin-Laden was such a major target. The United Nations has also been working to prevent terrorists from getting a hold of nuclear weapons and weapons of mass destruction. The fear of those types of weapons getting into the wrong hands has plagued the world since the 9/11 attacks. The Middle East is the biggest problem area in terms of terrorism. There has been a lot of time and money spent on cleaning out that area and immense progress has been made with the killing of Osama Bin-Laden and Saddam Hussein and the creation of a democratic government in Iraq. Do what you can to help the UN stop terrorism and save the world from total disaster.
